Wanted, a painter for the BJP

Never before the vacuum was so prominent. After its rout in the 15th Lok Sabha elections the BJP is searching for another Vajpayee. A leader who will not only be acceptable to all the groups and classes of Indian masses but will also lay down a different trajectory for the party to follow in future. A man who can give the BJP a vision and wisdom.
By now the BJP would have realized that laptops and blogs do not take you to the inroads of India. The youth, today, lives not only in their inboxes but thinks out of the box. Internet is just a medium, an interest of youngs today. It is not the end. Every generation is a change of its predecessors; every generation’s changes will be changed by its successors.
Advani is not the face of the youth of today, just not because he is physically old but also because of number of ideas and ideology which half the voters of the country cannot relate with. Age has nothing to do with physical strength; it has everything to do with vision. Rahul Gandhi’s rise as a youth icon in politics has its reasons. Youngs relate to him, not because he is half the age of Advani but because he thinks on the same lines as half the population in the country does.
The dismal performance by the saffron party washed off various hues mixed assiduously by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. These hues essentially were the staircase which could lead the BJP on the flights of power. The BJP quintessentially is the most progressive party we have. It has all the ingredients of a party which knows its history but will also work for the future. It rose as a party of the fanatics, but Vajpayee transformed it into a party of middle classes. Even the elites cannot ignore the roots it had among the masses. It is this root which has to be nurtured again to keep the party in the canvas of Indian politics.
A painter who can once again mix these colours of India, can be a leader of not only Hindus but Indians is needed by the BJP. Congress has many young leaders and Rahul Gandhi is seen as the new face of leadership in India. But the Congress has its limitations. It gained votes not because of its five-year term but because of BJP’s absence of solid projections as alternate government. BJP has five years. If in next general elections it does not find a leader of the masses, it should very well get ready to go to the gallows.

कांग्रेस की जीत या भाजपा की हार

कई बार हमारी जीत का कारण हमारी शक्ती नहीं, प्रतिद्वंदी की दुर्बलता होती है। पिछले पाँच वषों में कांग्रेस ने कोई भी ऐसा उल्लक्ष्य कार्य नहीं किया जिससे उसे सत्ता में वापस आने का (वो भी इतनी भारी जीत के साथ) अधिकार मिलता। कांग्रेस का सौभाग्य तो उबासियाँ ले रहा था पर भाजपा-भाग्य की असमय नींद ने उसे उठ बैठने को विवश कर दिया। अब राजनैतिक पंङित इसे चाहे राहुल गाँधी का जादू कहें मैं कांग्रेस की इस जीत का श्रेय भाजपा के उन बाज़ीगरों को दूँगी जिनकी अन्अभ्यस्त कलाबाज़ियों के चलते पार्टी को ये दिन देखना पङा। अन्दरूनी कलह के चलते भाजपा ना सिर्फ ये चुनाव हारी है साथ ही उसने अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के मकनातीस व्यक्तित्व से प्रभावित वोट-बैंक को भी खो दिया है। आज भाजपा फिर उसी रास्ते पे खङी है जहाँ से वो चली थी। भाजपा को २५ साल लग गये साम्प्रदायिक पार्टी तमगे से बाहर निकलने के प्रयास में। आर्थिक मंदी और देश में ढुलमुल सुरक्षा के चलते ये प्रयास शायद सफल भी हो जाता पर कुछ गलत शब्द और बचकाना चुनावी अभियान नें सब गुङ-गोबर कर दिया।इन सबके बावजूद पीलीभीत में जो हुआ, उससे जो रही सही कसर बची थी वो नरेन्द्र मोदी ने पूरी कर दी। अडवानी के प्रधान-मंत्री पद की घोषणा के बाद भी पार्टी में दूसरी पीङी के नेताओं के नाम भावी अगुवाओं की फेहरिस्त में उभरते रहे। इससे जनता में अडवानी की श्रेष्ठता के बारे मे शंका बनी रही। जिसके पार्टी नेता ही उसे अपना अगुवा ना माने, आम जनता भला उसे कैसे अपनी अगुवाई करने दे। ऐसे में आम आदमी के पास मनमोहन सिंह के अलावा क्या चारा रहता है? नरेन्द्र मोदी चतुर राजनेता हैं पर उनका प्रभाव अभी गुजरात से गुज़रने में समय लगायेगा। अभी से मोदी का आडवानी के उत्तराधिकारी के रूप में उछलना निरा बालवत हठ से ज़्यादा और कुछ नहीं लगता। फिर हमें ये नहीं भूलना चाहिये कि राजनाथ सिंह, अरुण जेटली और सुषमा स्वराज जैसे दिग्गज साधु नही है जो पार्टी-अगुवा की महत्वकांक्षा से परे हों।वरुण गाँधी की जीत भी कहीं ना कहीं पार्टी की हार का कारण बनी है। वरुण एक सीट तो जीत गये, पर ये एक सीट भाजपा को अगर अपनी पहली दो सीटों की याद दिला दे तो वो सार्थक हो जायेगी। पीलीभीत का खामियाज़ा पूरे देश के भाजपा समर्थकों को भरना पङेगा।
तिस पर राज्यों में ढीले चुनावी प्रचार भी भाजपा को कमज़ोर करते गये। राज्यों में जहाँ हर पार्टी ने जाति-गत राजनीति का खेल खूब जम कर खेला और जाति-गत मुद्दों के चलते फायदा भी कमाया, भाजपा बङे-बङे राष्ट्रीय मुद्दों में ही उलझी रही। राजस्थान में जहाँ पार्टी को स्थानीय मुश्किलों को उभारना चाहिये था वहीं वो जसवंत सिंह के पाकिस्तान के साथ रिश्तों के पापङ सेंक रही थी।
मध्य प्रदेश और गुजरात में भी स्थिति ऐसी ही थी। नतीजा ये हुआ कि भाजपा के हाथ सिर्फ पापङ आया, व्यन्जन तो कांग्रेस खा गई।पिछली बार जब कांग्रेस सत्तारूढ हुई थी तो भाजपा नें ये कहा था कि वो २००९ के चुनावों की तैयारियाँ करेगी। अब ये चुनाव भी बीत गये, भाजपा अगर आज से ही २०१४ के चुनावों की तैयारियों में जुट जाये तो बेहतर है वर्ना शायद अगली बार के बाद उसे तैयारी का भी समय ना मिले।

Who is a better fanatic?

Is your fanatism better than mine? If you can flog a teenager for alleged zina, I can burn alive a couple who tried to marry out of caste. If you can form laws to keep women in homes, I can chase young girls from pubs. If you can incarcerate a woman for ‘getting’ raped, I can rape a woman in her 60s for letting her son marry a girl from higher caste. If you wont allow a septuagenarian woman to accept bread from her nephew, I wont allow boys and girls celebrate a nonsense festival called valentine’s day. You are not gay enough to accept man loving a man, I am xenophobic.
While going through an article written by Dawn correspondent based in New Delhi, I realised that reality pinches and it pinches hard if it comes from the unexpected corners. I agree with the writer that social inequities are everywhere. I agree that Indians are no less barbaric when it comes to saving their honour (it is not honourable to kill daughters by the way) and protecting their customs but defending what the Taliban did to the 17-year-old girl in the not so far corners of your country is not justified.
What the author meant to say was that Indian media should mind their own ‘honour-killing’ and ‘non-pub culture’ business rather than creating brouhaha out of the whole issue of Chand Bibi been lashed by custodians of Islamic law in Swat. Instead of defending them by painting an Indian barbaric picture of the whole episode, it would have been better for the journalist to actually condemn the act objectively.
Bigotry has been a part of cultures of the world, almost all the cultures of the world. It is with time and development that these prejudices are overcome. Zealots are born out of insecurity, not by religion.

surviving

Man was born. He started living in groups. He learnt to cook and on the wheels of nature he drove his life into civilizations. He invented, he discovered, he transformed, he dreamt and he realized.
Today, man is alive. He lives by himself. The (glorious) thousand of years old civilizations does not infuse confidence in him which can make him dream again, realize again, discover again. The man was born, he lived. Now, he fights to survive. The man born thousand of years ago is lost in the fight to life.
